Core Values
Core Values Reflection
Before we gather, I’d love for you to complete a core values reflection exercise. The work I’ll be guiding you through begins with clarity — not productivity clarity or performance clarity, but values clarity. Our values are the internal drivers beneath our choices, our tensions, our longings, and our growth edges. They shape how we live, lead, love, create, and make meaning. This exercise is designed to help you begin identifying those deeper currents for yourself.
Please note: I do not believe we have separate values at work than we do in the rest of our lives. I take a holistic approach, and I invite you to do the same as you move through this exercise.
In a notebook or digitally, create four columns titled: This Drives Me, I Wish This Drove Me, This Describes Me, and This Doesn’t Resonate. As you read through each values word below, place it into one of those four columns. This Drives Me is for the words that feel alive and active in you — the ones that create a strong internal pull. I Wish This Drove Me is for aspirational values — qualities you admire or feel called toward but do not yet experience as core drivers. This Describes Me is for words that are true in some way but not central to your identity. This Doesn’t Resonate is simply for the words that are not relevant right now — no judgment, no meaning-making.
Move intuitively as you sort. Don’t overthink it or try to curate the “right” version of yourself. No one else will see this — it is for you. Let your first instinct guide you.
Once you’ve sorted all the words, return to your This Drives Me column and narrow that list down to your top three core values by circling them or highlighting them. If you notice that several words feel interconnected — different expressions of the same underlying value — you may group them together as one. Bring those three values with you on April 17th. They will serve as anchors for the work we’ll be doing together.
